I love the show Biggest Loser! I hate getting sucked into reality TV shows –but if it’s not Biggest Loser it’s Master Chef. I know, I know, such a contrast! I blame my kids, they got me addicted. So at our place, these shows are a family ritual. We all sit and watch. We talk to the contestants, and we cry with them too.
The truth be said, I actually really like the show, and I particularly like Shannon and Michelle (Personal Trainers)! Biggest Loser inspires me, reminds me that anything is possible, that the human mind is a powerful thing, and that people can see dreams eventuate when they are committed to a cause.
Tonight on the show, an old contestant made a star appearance in an aim to inspire the current contestants, and of course show off her new size 10 body. We viewed old footage of a breakdown moment, from when she first joined the program – on one occasion when she was asked to mention one thing she like about herself, she broke down and had nothing to say. Yet, tonight she spoke of her complete turn-around, of her positive self-perception, of how her whole life had changed, of how her confidence had soared, and of how her identity had been re-birthed – all from a new body image and shape!!
And I fully believe it, that’s why we feel great after a new hair style or in a new outfit. It is true, our outer image has a lot to do with how we feel and perceive ourselves. But there must be more! I get all wound up thinking about how even with a new body image and a new identity, there will come a time when all of that will also become familiar and, as humans, we will again, crave more. How quickly do we get bored with, and take for granted good things, and hunger for the next phase of new?
I can’t help but think about how even more amazing, more mobilised, more empowered, more satisfied and more confident these contestants would feel if a new lease on God was also thrown in the mix. Wow, how would it be if a small group of Christian personal trainers ripped off the ‘Biggest Loser’ boot camp concept and then added the whole spiritual side? Know anyone who is an envisioned entrepreneur with passion and cause, who could consider such a project? I say that’s a success story waiting to unfold! I’d love to see it!!!!!!
